Question:
I asked earlier about a field with severe nutsedge, yellow and purple. The grower applied the Gramaxone plus Basagran when peanuts were small and followed with the Cadre a couple of weeks later. Suppression was achieved but the nutsedge still lives, as of last week. What are the limitations on repeated cadre applications?
Jordan:
I would not apply Cadre twice. It does take some time to kill weeds with this herbicide. It could be three weeks. I have also seen weeds just sit there after they stopped growing. How long has it been? For yellow nutsedge you could come back with 1 quart of Basagran plus 1 quart of crop oil (or nonionic surfactant at 1 quart per 100 gallons.) But the Cadre may just need more time.
Follow Up:
I was wondering if it needed more time or if the nutsedge would just sit there suppressed. Think it's been 3 weeks but the effect just became obvious last week. Couldn't see the peanut row before and last week you could. Thanks for the clarification.
Jordan:
If the population was that dense you might have a coverage issue. I still would not apply additional Cadre. Pursuit is a weaker option and has some activity on purple nutsedge. They are different herbicides so crop response is likely okay.
