Pigweed Control Peanut Notes No. 134 2021

Question:

I have a grower that has peanuts that are behind watermelons. Water melons in 2020 and peanuts this year. Due to that he has bad pigweed problems this year in peanuts. How much Storm and Butyrac can we use in a year and there not be any concerns.

Jordan Answer:

I would shift from Storm to Ultra Blazer and Cobra for pigweeds.  Between these two products you can make 3 sprays at full rates.  That is a lot of PPO herbicide but it is the best option.  Storm does not have enough acifluorfen in it for pigweeds at 1.5 pints/acre.  You can spray just over 2 pints of 2,4-DB in a year depending on formulation.
