We found out that some fields were switched to peanuts that have low K-I (19-33) and have not had any potash applied. Given that level of deficiency should we sling potash overtop the beds ASAP? Second question, how high would you draw the line (around 40 K-I)? This is very sandy land CEC (<4) and HM (<.5).
Jordan:
I would apply exactly what the soil test calls for K. I would try to incorporate prior to bedding. Only concern is K in pegging zone and a few rains between now and pegging would move it down below 2 inches. But it needs to be in the root zone. If you end up applying a lot of K, you need to apply gypsum for sure at suggested rates. Don’t go any higher than recommended rates of gypsum.
