Proline Peanut Notes No. 50 2023

I discussed the value of Proline applied in the seed furrow with David Langston this morning. His comments will be posted in more detail on the Peanut/Cotton Infonet. Proline is in short supply. Based on the resistance to CBR we have in varieties like Bailey II and Sullivan (and to a lesser degree Emery,) the relatively good rotations we have, and the fact that we seldom see CBR in fields, the value of this product applied in the seed furrow very is limited. In the vast majority of cases, Proline will not bring a return on your investment. Knowing field history is the key. If you had CBR the last time you were in a field and you have had soybeans in your rotation, that is the scenario where Proline might be of value. If you did not have CBR the last time you had peanuts, you are at very low risk for CBR and the value from Proline even if you have grown peanuts in these fields since the last time you had peanuts is low.
