The following slide set includes data on southern corn rootworm control with multiple applications of Brigade and Steward in 2023. Data from 2022 have already been presented and discussed. Large-plot data are presented in 2024 Peanut Information. The bottom line is that there is no evidence to support use of multiple applications of insecticide to control adults to prevent damage from feeding by larvae (worms.) In many trials, damage from southern corn rootworm in the non-treated control is low. However, in several trials in 2023 there was an adequate amount of damage in the non-treated control to get a sense of how well insecticide treatments work against this pest. Given cost (Steward) and possibility of flaring mites (Brigade, to a degree) combined with data that shows little if any benefit in control and no yield response, application of insecticides to control adults is not recommended.
