Southern Stem Rot Peanut Notes No. 200 2023

(Updated: Aug. 26, 2023, 3:15 a.m.)

Even though many fields are dry, it is not uncommon to see subterranean stem rot (white mold.)

We also had some fields with false stem rot in 2022. If you think the disease is stem rot but the mycelium is not attached and extending from the peanut stem, it is not southern stem rot/white mold (also referred to as southern blight by some) that affects peanut yield. But it can be alarming.

After fungicide sprays last week and this week (August 28), a stem rot product is no longer needed.
