This time of year there can be spots on leaves that look much like leaf spot disease caused by the pathogens use fungicides to control in early July. The spots we often see now and through July and into August are typically caused by burn from chemical applications, primarily herbicides (but also other sources.) We generally do not see lesions associated with early and late leaf spot disease until much later in the season (August) and those spots will generally begin at the base of the plant. While leaf spot spores can be windblown, they also are associated with soil and therefore often begin with infection on the lower leaves.
