Yes. Generally, AgLogic (new Temik product that contains aldicarb), is slightly more effective in suppressing or controlling thrips compared with Phorate. Historically. The data are clear that Phorate/Thimet results in less TSWV. Farmers in the southeastern US where TSWV is always an issue use a lot of Thimet. We have data from years ago with older varieties that were susceptible to TSWV to back this up. Thimet affects peanuts in a way that enables plants to withstand the virus in a significant way. It’s not related to thrips control but a physiological response. Calibration is critical for Thimet on Sandy soils with low organic matter. Injury can happen if rate is too high.

Planting in mid-May, establishing 5 plants per foot of row, and using Phorate reduces risk to TSWV considerably. Resistance in Bailey II is as good as any of our current Virginia market types. The last thing on the list is tillage. We see fewer thrips and their damage and less TSWV in reduced tillage. However, Planting date, Phorate and plant stand are the practices you get the most out of in terms of TSWV.
