Spraying When Hot Peanut Notes No. 143 2026

Palmer amaranth in peanuts

Question:

Do you think it is too hot to spray Storm, Butyrac, and Basagran on peanuts right now? Is it better in morning or evening?

Jordan:

I would say later in the afternoon. It’s hot but weeds keep growing. You might hold off on the 2,4-DB unless you really need it. What are you trying to control?

Follow Up:

Morningglory, velvetleaf, and a few pigweeds that are starting to come. I sprayed 2.5 oz. Valor plus 1.5 pints Dual at planting. But so dry, and weeds are beginning to come again.

Jordan:

Sounds like you have a good program, and the 2,4-DB will likely help. I’d say spray either early or later in the day. Use 80/20 nonionic surfactant at 1 quart per 100 gallons.
