NC State has identified an area in the northeastern part of NC where a population of thrips demonstrated resistance to acephate (Orthene). On peanut in SC, while acephate can be utilized as an early post-emergent application to provide additional thrips control, it is generally not as widely applied on peanut as it is in NC. Still, this is good to be aware of.
Results from a SC test we conducted in 2017 are attached where we looked at several different insecticides. In general, thrips management from Radiant (spinetoram) in the test was competitive with that of Orthene when applied as a standalone or in combination with a different in-furrow insecticide. The thrips population in the Blackville test were susceptible to Orthene.
