Question:

Farmer does not want to injure peanuts with Valor due to splash up when they are emerging.  What is a good alternative?

There is not a good alternative to Valor because of our Palmer amaranth issues and resistance to ALS herbicides.  The farmer will need to rely more heavily on postemergence herbicides with contact and residual components.  But going in that direction is harder than having a good residual program up front.  My experience with Valor injury is that it is transient and peanuts recover quickly.  I have gone to numerous fields and looked at injury that was significant.  When I returned a week or so later as a follow up I often thought I was in the wrong field because the peanuts recovered so quickly.  The value of Valor for weed control far exceeds the injury potential and ramifications on peanut yield caused by the injury.
