Yellow Peanuts Peanut Notes No. 152 2023

Question:

We have 2 fields of peanuts here at the shop that are pale in the parts of the field that have never had peanuts before. The old peanut land is normal green and growing and at the Apogee stage. The affected areas are slightly behind in growth but are still growing. We have put extra manganese on the affected areas. Manganese sulfate(powder) form of manganese (32%.) If you have a suggestion for the next step we would appreciate it greatly. We have cultivated some of the areas and that may have helped some.

Jordan:

If new ground, this sounds more like nitrogen than anything else. Dig up plants in the yellow areas and see if there are any nodules. We need at least 15 on the tap root. If that is not the case, my recommendation is 500 pounds ammonium sulfate if peanuts were planted less than 70 days ago, or 400 pounds if 70 to 100 days after planting (Table 3-7 in 2023 Peanut Information.)

Need to retrace inoculant performance but they likely need N (nitrogen) ASAP.
