Question:
Is there a product that u recommend to use on peanuts that u think helps yield. I know there’s peg power and a few others out there but idk if they’re worth the money. You may have some test results on these type materials? Thank you.
Jordan:
I have looked at numerous products like these over many years and locations and have never recorded a yield increase. I think that is relatively true from my colleagues across the peanut belt. These may help on occasion (5% of the time at best) but very unpredictable. My suggestion has long been for growers to increase their digging capacity so they can be as timely as possible. When compared with yield enhancement products, I would strongly consider the timely digging aspect. I was also asked last week if products like you mention here hasten maturity. I have never observed that and research in Florida showed no response.
I wish there was something that would give us another 3-5% yield increase. But there is none that I am aware of and we would be using it routinely. Timely digging can do that. Also maintaining a strong fungicide program well into the fall can help protect yield by buffering against weather issues.
Hope this helps.
