Zinc Question Peanut Notes No. 29 2026

Peanut field in northeastern North Carolina in August

Question:

I have multiple new farms that have zinc levels from 178-260. Would it be a good idea to break these farms deep and lime them to 6.7-6.8 or would bringing the ph to 6.7-6.8 be sufficient? I believe the highest is in the low 300's, but the median range is 215. I appreciate your input.

Jordan:

Is this the index value or pounds of zinc per acre?

Follow Up:

Index value.

Jordan:

You should be okay. If pH is above 6.5, you should be able to handle a NCDA index of 1,000. Maybe even higher but certainly an index of 300.

Follow Up:

Do you think using a mold board plow is unnecessary as long as I get the ph 6.5 or higher?

Jordan:

I don’t think moldboard plow is needed.
